Scheme and Haskell are two of my favorite programming languages, and I know both are implementations of the lambda calculus. I'd like to learn more about that, but I haven't been able to find good sources. Most of the time I do find it mentioned, it's mentioned in passing, for example in SICP or the Little Schemer. Some things I'd like to know: - How to construct lambda functions from Turing machines and vice versa - How to think about the Y-combinator (this is now almost un-googleable) - What variants of the lambda calculus have been constructed and what their properties are - How lambda functions relate to functions in the mathematical sense. Are they the same? Can you call them on real numbers? Are they continuous? Etc Extra points if you can recommend a full theoretical treatment. I'm interested in really digging in to this topic. TransferWise , the London-headquartered international money transfer service recently valued at $3.5 billion , has secured an additional license with U.K. regulators to enable it to offer investment products in the future. This will mean that U.K. customers who have money deposited in a TransferWise multi-currency or so-called “borderless” account will be given the option to make that money work harder on their behalf. Total deposits currently sit at £2 billion, so there is quite a lot of customer cash potentially idle. However, the company isn’t revealing much detail on its future investments product, except to say that it will initially offer “simple, affordable funds from reputable providers” so that customers can earn a return on their balances. Up to £85,000 of money held as investments within a TransferWise account per customer will be protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. The new offering is still in development and will launch “in the next 12 months.”

Security Council is trying again to reach agreement on its first resolution on COVID-19 since the coronavirus started circling the global in February, after a lengthy dispute between the U.S. and China over mentioning the World Health Organization. A revised draft resolution by France and China was submitted for a vote Tuesday and the result is expected to be announced on Wednesday. The Supreme Court elated religious freedom advocates and alarmed secular groups with its Tuesday ruling on public funding for religious education, a decision whose long-term effect on the separation of church and state remains to be seen. For those who don't know (or belong to a newer generation), Microsoft's IE (Internet Explorer) was one browser that had almost monopolized itself globally for many years mostly during the early nineties decade. They managed to do it but the backlash was such that the public pressure practically caused a storm that made Bill Gates sit in front of the jury and answer some hard questions. And today, I'm seeing history is repeating all over again, only Chrome has taken IE's place but there is no storm coming this time. Unlike our predecessors, we are giving in to convenience, we are acting like its not a botheration at all. PLEASE DON'T DO IT. Consider the sheer browser market share that Chrome enjoys and Google's data interests for a moment, and it might already be too late for us. If a web service insists only on Chrome for best performance then change that service, not your browser! If Youtube gives issues to you then use Vimeo or Lbry instead. Let's unite
